Living with Mormons

Usein kun kerron ihmisille, että asun mormoniperheessä, tulee kommentti tyylin, että "oijoi, mä oon niin pahoillani"... ja mä yleensä vastaan jotain sellaista kuin "oi, älä ole, musta se on ihanaa". Tässä postauksessa ajattelin kertoa, että millaista elämä mormonien kanssa on, tälläisen perussuomalaisen tytön mielestä.

Mormonit on ehkä mukavampia ihmisiä mitä tunnen. Nää on superavuliaita, en tiedä mikä siinä on, mutta ne tekee sun puolesta vaikka mitä ihanaa. Munkin mormonikaverit on tehnyt mulle niin paljon kivoja asioita, ja tiedän, että vaikka kuinka yrittäisin, niin en voisi koskaan korvata puoliakaan siitä. Mun kaverit ei myöskään ole tuomitsevaisia, ihmisiä ei syrjitä niiden taustan perusteella, kuten monissa muissa kirkoissa mun mielestä tehdään. Nää ei ehkä välttämättä hyväksy sun tekojasi, mutta ne ei silti syrji sitä ihmistä. Lähes kaikki mun kaverit kuuluu MAP-kirkkoon.

MAP-kirkon jäsenten elämässä uskonto näkyy jokapäiväisessä elämässä. Mormonien elämä on yleensä aika terveellistä, koska he eivät juo kahvia, teetä tai alkoholia, tai polta tupakkaa tai käytä muitakaan päihteitä. He eivät kiroile tai puhu epäsopivia juttuja, ja K-15 ja K-18 elokuvat ovat kiellettyjä. Suurin osa pukeutuu säädyllisesti, eli olkapäät ovat piilossa ja asut on polviin asti. Sääntöjä on siis paljon, mutta mua ei pakoteta niihin ollenkaan, mikä on todella helpottavaa. Monet näistä jutuista on kuitenkin jo tarttunut muhun, kuten kiroilemattomuus. Päivällinen siunataan ennen syöntiä, ja nämä rukoilee myös ennen nukkumaanmenoa. Sunnuntaikirkko kestää kolme tuntia ja viikolla on Young Women's. Maanantaina vietetään perheiltaa, jonka tarkoituiksena on siis olla perheen kanssa. Pyhiä kirjoituksia yritetään lukea päivittäin. Joka kuukauden ensimmäinen sunnuntai on paasto, jonka aikana rukoillaan jonkin itselle tärkeän asian puolesta. Uskonto on siis iso osa mun hostperheen elämää, ja samalla myös mun elämää tällä hetkellä.

Ehkä eka asia mikä mua järkytti kun tulin Amerikkaan, oli lapsien määrä. Yleensä ihmisillä on enemmän kuin neljä lasta, ja tunnenpa jopa perheen, jossa lapsia on 14! Monet luulee, että mormonit ei saisi käyttää ehkäisyä, mutta tämä ei ole kuitenkaan totta. Suurin osa vain tykkää suurista perheistä.

Mun katsomus mormonismiin on se, että vaikken uskokaan kaikkeen mihin he uskovat, niin ne ovat aivan mahtavia ihmisiä ja uskonto opettaa hyviin elämäntapoihin ja ihmisten hyväksymiseen, ja ylipääään hyvään elämään.. Vaikka näillä on paljon sääntöjä joita he noudattavat, niin tuomitsevaisia nämä ei ole, ei ollenkaan. Mormonikirkkoon on tosi paljon vihoja, enkä ymmärrä miksi, koska mulla ei oikeasti oo mitään negatiivista sanottavaa sen kirkosta tai sen ihmisistä.

Tuleville vaihtareille, älkää pelätkö uskonnollista perhettä. Se tulee olemaan outoa, ja tosi uuvuttavaa aluksi, mutta mä oon todella onnellinen siitä, että mun perhe on uskonnollinen ja että uskonnosta on tullut niin suuri osa mun elämää!

Mormons are the nicest people I know. Almost all of my friends in America are LDS and I'm practically Mormon right now, because I go to church every Sunday and stuff. Mormons are super helpful, and my friends have done so much things for me here, and I don't really know how to show how much I appreciate it. People also don't judge others, like some other religions seem to do. They might not agree with the way you live with, but you still won't be judged. Almost all my friends are LDS.
Religion shows in the everyday life of Mormons. Their lifestyle is very healthy, because they don't drink coffee, tea (herbal teas are ok though), or alcohol, smoke cigarettes or use other drugs. They don't use profanity, watch Rated R movies and follow the dress code (hide your shoulders and everything is supposed to be knee length). There's a lot of rules, but I'm not forced to follow them, which is super relieving. I have changed a lot and absorbed some of the rules, like I don't swear anymore. The dinner is blessed before eating, and people pray before going to bed, too. Sunday's church lasts for three hours, and during the week there's Young Women's. On Monday, we have Family Home Evening, where we just spend time with the family. Mormons try to read scriptures every day. Every month's first Sunday is fast, during which you pray for something important for you. Religion is a big part of my host family's life, and it is also a big part of my life at the moment, too.
The first thing that shocked me about Mormons when I came to America, was the amount of children. Most people have more than four, and I know an LDS family with 14 kids! Many think, that Mormons can't use birth control, but this isn't true; most people just like big families.
My view on Mormonism is that even though I don't believe in everything they believe in, they're wonderful people and the religion teaches you to healthy life and accepting people, and just overall living a good life and being kind. Despite the fact that they have a lot of rules, they don't judge people, because they're taught not to. The Mormon church gets a lot of hate which I honestly don't understand, because I have nothing negative to say about them or their religion.
Future exchange students, don't fear about being in a religious family. At first it'll be weird, and super exhausting, but I'm so happy about the family I'm in and their religion!
